Long-Term Care Homes are facilities subsidized by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term care. They provide nursing and personal care to individuals who are no longer able to live independently. Many long-term care homes also offer short term respite care. Long-term care homes are also known as Homes for the Aged or Nursing Homes.
Information about and admission to long-term care homes is provided by Community Care Access Centres (CCACs), which are funded and legislated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Effective May 2017, Ontario home and community care services were transferred from CCAC’s to Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs).
